Our world was brought to a grinding halt due to Covid-19 on Mar 22, 2020. We had 2 events falling on 27th March, sisters anniversary and my better halfs birthday. The initial plans were to celebrate in a resort with the entire family, but obviously that wasn’t happening as the Prime minister, Mr Modi announced a nationwide lockdown until April 18th! Phew! Well it can be disheartening to be locked in a home on your special days. Since I am a very positive person who loves to organize events I figured it all out. After all where there is a will, there is a way 🙂
It was a blessing in disguise that my sister was visiting me and got stuck in my house since lockdown was announced. We both decided to do something for the day. I always try to bring a central theme to all my events. So we decided we should all play games and call it a game night. Once the theme is finalised, Next step was the decor. Since there were limited resources at home we just decided to make a small photo booth. We made dice with 4 and 5 digits since it was a 45th birthday and 9th anniversary(4+5=9)! Next we made a G and N alphabet like in the game of scrabble and also a chess piece. You can do a whole lot of other things but we had limited stationary. Last but not the least we made a lock. Now it was arranging time. Here is what we did:
The cake shops were all closed so the only option was to make something at home. Neither had I ever baked cakes before nor did I have an oven so after some brainstorming we decided to make a rava sheera cake. When one of my friends heard it she suggested we could even try to make a cake with biscuits on the gas. So finally we ended up making 2 homemade cakes. One was a rava sheera cake with mango and chocolate flakes decorated with Gulab Jamuns around it and the other was a bourbon biscuits cake made on gas. We used scrabble alphabets to mark the special names.
It was an evening well spent with clicking fun pics, drinks and food. Not a bad way to celebrate at home in a lockdown, Eh?!
