My teenager was in her second teen year and she decided to have a pajama slumber party. Well your wish is my command is what I tell my kids when it comes to their birthday parties.I was lucky enough to have an aunt who had her yoga studio. I decided to use the studio.
I started by making invites and sending them across to parents for RSVP. Once you make this design you can keep using it in all the stationary that you design.
Next was the poster on the door.
You can decorate the place with small tepee tents if you have the budget or just throw some mattresses and make one single tent for the birthday girl to make her feel special. I did not make a very sturdy tent. I just used a little weight on both sides to hold the cloth together and put the cloth over a rope.
The girls had some cozy clicks inside the tent.
For the walls I made some buntings at home – purple for girls and blue grey for boys. Buntings are my favorite decoration materials. They are super easy to make and can really give a cool customized look to your party. A lot of different styles are now available online too.
I decided to customize pillows for each child with their names as a return gift.
The first thing that came to my mind when I was planning this party was a way to take away the phones from these teenagers. So I made a basket and put a sticker of Mobiles on it. As soon as the kids entered they had to put their phones in the basket. Once all kids were there I picked up the basket and went and placed it in another room.
Slumber party synonyms to late night to these teenagers and late nights mean junk food binge! You can stock up a corner of the room with the favorite cookies, chips etc. This is what I did. I made a late night Binge bar for kids to munch on the favourite junk they love. They were thrilled when I told them the Bar was open and you can help yourself as much as you want. LOL
Next if you have empty walls you can make a birthday message board for the birthday girl and ask her friends to write embarrassing messages for her . LoL..Teenagers love doing such stuff. I had a ball reading all about the boys my daughter was teased with š Make sure you click the pic of the board only in the morning after the party is over as the kids will just keep writing on it till the last minute before they leave!
Well what’s a slumber party without a movie. Since there was no TV in the yoga studio , we rented a projector and played the movie on the wall. I borrowed a clapboard from a friend( amazon has it too) and made Paehel clap before the movie started. It gave a nice production feel. You can use your creativity in writing on the clapboard.
So it was LIGHT…CAMERA…ACTION
Last but not the least – The Birthday cake. I like to customise and design cakes and since the theme was slumber, I decided to make a small tent with ice cream sticks and origami paper. Alongwith that I made cake toppers of popcorn, stars, clapboard etc. And yes I never write Happy birthhday. LoL
Event flow
The kids came around 8 pm and they had fun exploring the place, chatting, and having some fun time with each other.
After some mingling time we played a twister game . They had to place their feet and hands according to the pictures on the floor all at the same time. There will be a riot of laughter as the kids try to balance. I made an error of pasting the same side hands on the second last line and they got stuck there in awkward positions. LOL
After that game we planned a pillow fight game. We divided the kids in 2 teams and they had to throw pillows at the opposite team trying to hit their captain in least number of throws. When a pillow hit any kid that child had to go to sleep. The team that managed to hit the captain with maximum kids standing would win the set. We played best of three sets. It was a riot of shrieks screams and laughter. The two teams took their positions.
We started the movie around 10.00 pm. I had arranged popcorn with the movie. You can bring cute popcorn tubs available at the party store for the effect of a movie theatre. Next was cake cuttingĀ in the interval followed with midnight pizza buffet. Pizzas are the safest and least cumbersome when it comes to parties for kids.
After the movie they were in their own space ….. giggling, clicking pics, playing their favorite truth and dare games before the lights went out at 3 am!!!
Kids like staying up late and a slumber party is sure an awesome way to do it. So go on and throw your teenager a slumber party. He/She will love it.
