This is a beautiful way to see Wanaka. You shall be greeted to 360 degree views of Wanaka from the summit. Just slip in your sports shoes and head off to Mt iron Trek. This is an easy 1.5 – 2  hour trek with stunning panoramic views of Wanaka. The Southern Alps, Pisa range, Upper Clutha basin are all visible from the summit.

The trail head is on state highway 84, very close to Puzzling world. Watch out for the Statue. The trail starts from here.

The trail starts with gentle climb on the western side and then becomes a little steeper. As you keep climbing, wonderful views of Lake Wanaka with its surrounding peaks starts unfurling before you.

Once at the summit, you can either get down from the eastern side which has views of farmlands or come down from the western side again. I preferred to come down the western side again because of beautiful views of Lake Wanaka.

Tips

Start late afternoon and enjoy sunset at the summit. I wasnt so lucky to do it as I had other things planned.

Its quite an easy walk so just go for it.
